The Creative Vision:
There are two parts of the installation, representing nature on one side, and machine on the other. Human nature straddles these two sides, always seeking to bring balance to both nature and machine. As we strive to live a life of meaning and purpose, there are moments of blissful harmony interspersed with chaos and uncertainty. At times, we move with the flow, but then, we discover ourselves, find our true calling and go our own way.
The Realizations:
Sisik – Motion x Passion
Biomimicry, brought to life through passion & technology, Sisik attempts to simulate the movement and flow of water ripples and the wings of a bird in flight, among other nature inspired movements. It is programmable, on the fly through a custom designed software application, driving an array of mini stepper motors. The exhibit is scalable and can be deployed in a variety of sizes, while also being flexible enough for different applications and can easily be upgraded with sensors to provide an interactive display that reacts in real-time to external stimuli.
Fluxus – Fluid & Transient
Employing a simple physical phenomenon by utilizing a number of independent pendulums, with precisely calculated and adjusted swinging frequencies, Fluxus creates a mesmerizing wave effect that appears to flow between the harmony and chaos. A simple electro mechanical setup, automatically resets the exhibit, while LED lighting in various hues can be employed to enhance the effect. The exhibit can also be scaled to different sizes depending on the application and environment.
Fā – Bloom & Flourish
Creative & Mechanical Design Lead: Qiao Yuan
Featuring flowers that magically bloom in response to the environment, Fā represents the beauty and majesty of nature. Powered by an array of electro-mechanical components, this exhibit is both scalable and can be paired with additional sensors to provide a unique, interactive experience.
