In conjunction with World Industrial Design Day, 29th June, we collaborated with APU’s School of Media Arts & Design to share about the whole works of an Industrial Designer, and how we take products from conceptual stage up till a product that is ready for the market.

IDEO developed a tool called the ‘Mood Meter’ which I came across in one of their article. We have gone through multiple rounds of iterations on the Face Shield design, and finally these face shields are ready for you! With comfort in mind, we have designed one of the most lightweight face shields in the market, tested by our very own team.
Created to provide some home entertainment during this period of social distancing, with its contents inspired by COVID-19’s media highlights within the local community. Have you been hanging out a lot lately in Zoom, Google Meets, Google Hangouts, Skype? One of the skills most of us have gained during this MCO is learning how to have better concall/ webcalls at home. How has your experience been so far? Some might be doing it so well they’ve decided to quit F2F meetings after MCO, but some might be struggling with all these ‘new’ ways of working.
The next item to work on for COVID-19 Malaysia is the intubation box. It is a transparent cover placed over a patient during the process of intubation. It is when a sickle like device is slid into your throat and they put the endotracheal tube (ET) in so that you can be hooked up to a ventilator.
The Ongs have been phenomenal ever since expedio design started doing this. The whole family chipped in and they have produce at least 700 face shields to the front liners.
So we have been running this and it was underway since the weekend. As I am typing this, we have done close to 500 face shields using the DIY method. I've done many runs these days to secure more raw material. We now have material to make 3000 face shields.
This series of write up is by Tee Chian, Expedio’s Technical Director and also the main lead for this project/ initiative. Throughout this duration, he plans and coordinates all the material, suppliers, fabrication, liaising with hospitals and the delivery of the face shields.
Due to the current situation faced by front line medical personnel, the team has challenged ourselves to apply our capabilities and resources to rapidly develop and deploy product innovations that would assist in the war effort against COVID 19!
